Help with childrens books gift ideas?
I have a 5 year old girl, a 3 year old girl, and 2 babies to buy Christmas books for this year. Can you give me some good suggestions? I know of the real popular ones like Good NIght Moon, Where the Wild Things are etc. but they already have those.
P.S. The 5 year old girl loves horses!
There are some GREAT Veggie Tales books out there. They’re funny, but have great moral lessons with them. I also love, "Guess how much I love you."
Sandra Boynton board books are great for babies and toddlers (my 5 year old still likes them, too). Try Moo, Baa, La La La, or Barnyard Dance.
Eric Carle books are great. Animals Animals Animals is a collection of animal poetry that appeals to a wide age range.
Some of my 5 year olds long-time favorites include Fiddle-I-Fee by Will Hillenbrand, The Paper Princess, by Elisa Kleven, The Owl and the Pussycat, by Edward Lear, and Custard the Dragon, by Ogden Nash.
My son loves these:
I Love You, Goodnight
The Moon in my Room
Guess How Much I Love You
I Love You So Much
Love You Forever
My son (2) also likes to read any of the Berentsain Bear books.
i have a 6-, 4-, and 2-year-old. last year they liked:
for a 5 year old: I-Spy and Where’s Waldo books; Magic Treehouse books; Cam Jansen books; Junie B. Jones books; more complex (not easy reader) Dr. Seuss books (like Horton Hears a Who); Magic Schoolbus books
for a 3 year old: Olivia books; books by Kevin Henkes; Duck and Goose; Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the bus (and sequels); Blueberries for Sal; There’s a Monster at the End of this Book
for a baby: Goodnight Gorilla; lift-the-flap books; Sandra Boynton books; Eric Carle books
The frog and toad books are good. Nursery rhymes are good for the rhythm, and, because some of the words are so old, they’re new to the children and that leads to vocabulary development.
For the babies, I’d pick cardboard books with really simple stories that are told mostly through pictures. Maybe one or two sentences per page. My baby came crawling over to me with such a book tucked under one arm for me to read so I think that books that are safe for them to grab and carry are the best.
